What is the legal term for when you pay for a service and then the company demands more money?
Tony H asked:
For example, it was agreed by contract that a company would provide you with a service for $100. You then pay them the $100 and they accept it, but then all of a sudden they up the amount of their service to $300 and refuse to give you back the $100 but also refuse to provide ANY service until you pay them an additional $200. What is the legal term for this? Any helpful hints on learning more about business transaction/service contract laws? Thanks. But I need the term for this. Thank you.

I would call it “breach of contract”. You had agreed on a price and paid them in good faith, they then broke the agreement and unilaterally changed the terms of the agreement.
For $100 you seem to have a pretty fair small claims action. However, it may not be worth your time to file, appear, and win…
