What is the legal thermostat temp for cold months at place of work?
Ophelia82004 asked:
What is the legal thermostat temp for cold months at place of work? Does anyone know, or know where I can find this information? I’m looking specifically for the state of Texas. My workplace is very cold, and it’s because they aren’t turning on the heat. It was 30 last night, and there is no heating on.
We are all wearing coats and some of us have blankets on us. It’s not one person, it’s everyone.

In the UK it is 60 degrees F.
There isn’t one. However, the workplace might run afoul of OSHA regulations if the temperature is so cold that it is putting employees’ lives or health at risk. But you don’t have any right to a “warm” work environment.
I don’t think there is a specific legal temp. As you know in Texas it changes so fast. Today it snowed here! Saturday is supposed to be 75. You can just ask them to please turn on the heat and put on a jacket.
edit: Since it is everyone. The managers should be effected, if you can access the thermostat go turn it on to heat at about 65. If you can’t access it remind managment we had records lows last night and heat would be nice.
There probably is not a law defining the ‘legal temperature’ of the workplace.
Just wear a sweater or something.
Why is it that when ONE person is cold the entire office has to be heated making it unbearable for the rest of the team?
EDIT:
It has been pointed out to me that there may be more than one or two folks cold. In that case, the office manager or building manager might turn the heat up to 68 or 70 if everyone asks.
Good luck.
There is none. Do construction workers in Milwaukee get heat while working outside? No. Do traffic cops? No. What’s the minimum temperature for deep sea fisherman? There isn’t one.
That being said, if you’re union, file a grievance. If not union, talk to your manager and go up the chain.
